New law on Nepal Police in priority: Home Minister Lekhak

5 Sept, Kailali : Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said government had prioritized making of new laws relating to Nepal Police.

Minister Lekhak reiterated that government had given top priority to the formulation of laws to make security agencies competent and updated so that new forms of crimes would be identified and coped up effectively along with smooth organization.

“The organization of Nepal Police is still running as per the law made in 2012BS. Although it was amended for several times, time has come to replace it with new law,” he shared, adding that Home Ministry had written to the Finance Ministry for the assent. The Minister further argued that new law on Nepal Police was essential in view of the court verdict as well. Only regulation would not suffice, he added. The Minister admitted that there is dilemma in the police administration due to delayed law making. “It is essential to sort out problems with new law, which would also end the trend of moving court over any dispute,” Lekhak stressed.

He also shared the provisions incorporated in the related draft. Moreover, the Home Minister said all organs of the State need to work in tandem in order to enforce citizen’s rights. On the occasion, Minister for Internal Affairs and Law in Sudurpaschim Province, Hira Sarki, complained that the workforces of Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force mobilized at border were working despite limited resources.

He requested the Home Minister to pay heed to this front. Inspector General of Nepal Police, Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, said the petrol pump set up by Nepal Police Welfare Fund would supply fuel round the clock. Home Minister Lekhak had opened the petrol pump run by the Fund here Thursday.
