6 May, Patan (Lalitpur) : Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba emphasized national interest over partisan and thus called for working towards nation-building considering it as our prime duty.
In a dialogue on the economic policy to be included in the upcoming budget organized by the NC’s Department of Economic Policy and Planning here today, leader Deuba remarked that the NC had championed the liberalization drive in the country’s economic sector.
Reminding that Nepal initiated economic liberalization when there was absence of it even in India; he said that all political parties in the country have come to follow the policy of liberalization.
Deuba, also former Prime Minister, proudly shared that it was his party that had introduced the policy of inclusive development in the country, underscoring social inclusion to eliminate the discrimination and disparities prevailing the society.
According to him, the government should consider investment in education and health sector instead of engaging in trade and business.
While Deuba was all praises for the performance of private sector in the education sector, he rued that the government has not been able to do much in this sector.
On a different note, he shed light on the adverse effects of climate change on the mountains that, he worried, were turning into black rocks and thus highlighted the need for conservation of forest and mountain as well as biodiversity.
He viewed that Nepal has made a notable achievement in the education, health, aviation transportation among others.
Urging to enable investment-friendly environment within the country in the context of decreasing foreign grants, he suggested that investment should be considered only on those projects that ensure returns.
According to him, five bills have been endorsed in the parliament to facilitate the investment process in the private sector. He assured that the upcoming budget will also further simplify the investment process.
Moreover, he underlined development of IT sector and encourages more and more youths’ engagement in this sector.
On a different note, Deuba mentioned that it was necessary to form a coalition in the current inclusive proportional system where no party had a clean majority.
As for the delay in appointment of Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Deuba clarified that the delay was due to the internal issues within the central bank rather than the political one.
“There is no any political issue regarding the appointment of Governor. Oliji is also positive about it. It is due to the internal issues within the Nepal Rastra Bank” he said, ruling out any other external reasons for the delayed appointment
