SAFF Championship: Nepal blanks Bhutan 4-0

Kathmandu, Sept 6 : Nepal trounced Bhutan 4-0 in the match held today under the SAFF Championship football tournament underway in Bangladesh.

In the match held at Bangabandhu stadium in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, Nepal took the lead in the 21st minute with a goal by Ananta Tamang. The first half ended at 1-0 and Nepal scored three more goals in the second half to secure three important points.
The second goal came in the 70th minute when Sunil Bal scored a rebound from the unsuccessful penalty shot taken by Bimal Ghartimagar. Nepal had won a penalty after Nirajan Khadka was fouled inside the D box by Bhutanese defender.
Bharat Khawas scored the third goal of the match in the 77th minute while Nirajan Khadka added the fourth in the 88th minute of the match.
The win today increases Nepal’s possibility to reach the semi-final. Bhutan has been knocked out from the tournament. Nepal had started with a loss in the tournament, facing a 1-2 loss at the hands of Pakistan. Nepal will now play its final league match against hosts Bangladesh on coming Saturday.
