23 July, Kathmandu : Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa said he would accommodate all divergent sides in the party where friends from four generations are working together. At a programme organized here today by the NC Central Policy, Research and Training Academy (CPRTA) on the occasion of the 44th BP Memorial Day, he underlined the need to move ahead by embracing new thoughts and ideas evolving in the country.
Noting that the tendency of only focusing on elections in and outside the party has increased, Thapa urged leaders and party members to learn from BP’s ideals and sacrifices and to engage in both elections and politics, as well as charitable service and welfare works. ‘Step out from the reel and look at real life, you will hear only the voices of ordinary people. Work in a way that sends the message that Congress stands with people in their hardships, ‘ he added. Thapa noted that NC is in the provincial and local governments and only in opposition at the federal government level, and urged everyone to move forward wholeheartedly on issues affecting people’s livelihoods in their areas.
The President also urged every party member and committee to make some pledge for the country and the people on the occasion of BP’s birth anniversary on Bhadra 24. Also on the occasion, NC Vice-President Bishwo Prakash Sharma urged everyone to adopt BP’s ideals, thoughts, and values and take a pledge to become teachers in their own areas. Another Vice President, Pushpa Bhusal, stated that the special general convention has advanced the party constitution in a new way, stating that the political election bureau mechanism in the statute will address problems seen during elections, help make it more inclusive, and foster a sense of ownership among everyone.
NC General Secretary Pradeep Paudel mentioned that the Congress aims to present the people’s problems as part of its agenda and is trying to move the party forward creatively. Another General Secretary, Gururaj Ghimire, stated that after the new leadership came through the special general convention, leadership succession has been carried out according to the needs of the era.
Likewise, NC parliamentary party leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe said that everyone should take BP’s ideas and ideals into their own thinking and behavior and move forward. He said, “The leadership should carry BP’s ideas and ideals as new thinking and take them across the country as a campaign. History is always warning us, and we must be able to realize that.” Key note speaker, Prof. Krishna Khanal commented on BP, saying that BP was not just limited to Congress but remained as the capital of the entire nation, and it would be unfair if Congress claimed him as their own.
Prof. Khanal said, “BP is a symbol of faith. In his life, he did not get much chance to practice politics, but now we are practicing political action. In such a situation, how we remember BP and how we implement his ideas is important.” Mohana Ansari, a member of the Policy CPRTA, said that the ideas and philosophy presented by BP and the time he shaped during that time continue to be a source of inspiration for everyone today.
