LBU has its unique place as specialized university: Education Minister

2 March, Lumbini : Minister for Education, Science and Technology and Pro-Chancellor of Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU), Ashok Kumar Rai, has said LBU has its own importance as a specialized university.

Addressing the LBU’s 15th Senate chaired by LBU Chancellor and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in Lumbini today, Education Minister Rai said LBU is the university not only of Nepal but also of international concern and interest.

He stated that the LBU has been continuously working to produce skilled and capable human resources with morality required for the nation, besides spreading the Buddhist education with the message of peace to the world. The Education Minister said there are several archaeological sites in Nepal and it has become inevitable to use Nepal’s own human resources for their archaeological excavation and development.

Stating that the Ministry, the Lumbini Development Trust and the Department of Archaeology have to devise a plan of using the LBU’s human resources in the archaeological excavation of Tilaurakot area of Kapilbastu and Ramgram area of Nawalparasi as well as many more places in Lumbini itself, he believed that doing so would enhance students’ attraction towards the University and the country would achieve a big success in archaeological exploration in a short time.

The nation would also get skilled experts, he added. Minister Rai stressed that while keeping the Buddha’s birthplace, Lumbini, at the centre, the mission of developing LBU into an international academic centre for the teaching and research of Buddhist education, literature, art and history should also not be forgotten.

He opined that there is need for moving ahead in a planned way for contributing to the national education development through the Buddhist education. Before this, Prime Minister Dahal inaugurated the Central Office constructed within the premises of the Lumbini Development Trust. The building constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 220 million houses the Vice Chancellor’s Office, the Office of the Registrar, the Research Centre and the International Relations Office.
