29 March, Kathmandu : Minister for Home Affairs, Sudhan Gurung, instructed the concerned authorities to work on measures for timely preparedness as part of disaster response so that public safety would be bolstered in the monsoon havoc.
Speaking at a programme organized at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority on Sunday, Minister Gurung directed the Authority’s officials to ensure necessary workforces and equipment at standby for the effective disaster response. He argued the State should not hesitate to mobilize every available resource for the rescue of people at urgency. “Protecting the lives of citizens is the State’s foremost responsibility. Hence, it is imperative to remain prepared for all types of disasters,” asserted the newly appointed Home Minister.
After taking stock of the Authority’s ongoing works, Minister Gurung highlighted the importance of incorporating disaster management-related content in the school and colleges curriculum. He also pointed out the need to impart training to students about basic training on disaster preparedness.
On the occasion, Chief Executive of the Authority, Dinesh Prasad Bhatta, made a presentation outlining Authority’s ongoing efforts, future priorities and challenges in disaster risk reduction and management.
